“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
Hello Motivation Seekers, how are you and how has your week been? I hope you have got off to a good start in 2020 with help from the previous Motivators covering your vision, plans, goals and most importantly mindset. Did you improve your abundance mindset during the last week? I really hope the Motivator helped with that as it is the main thing that will make a big difference for you.
I love our quote this week, which is completely relevant to the week that I have just had. I was attuned to Reiki 2, which was an amazingly spiritual experience and reminded me of this saying. It makes sense to think of ourselves as spiritual, here for a very short time, to experience being human. Yet, mostly we have somehow managed to get it around the other way, with devastating consequences for our health and wellbeing.
When I first started my coaching business, I was really driven to help small business owners. The reason for that was that I had been a co-owner of a busy bakery with my husband since the 80’s. I knew how hard it could be to run a business and especially to lead a balanced life and have time for yourself and your family. I knew first hand from hard won experience how difficult that was, and that was what I wanted to do for business owners, to help them overcome those same issues.
At the time, I had this idea of us being “Soulpreneurs”, it made more sense to me to bring our hearts and souls into our businesses, not just being sales driven and profit driven. As a trained Accountant, I know how important those things are, but as a trained Life Coach, I also know how important it is to have a “holistic” approach to business, and especially to employing people. If we approach business in that way, it is far more meaningful for everyone and the money stats will just follow.
If we see not just ourselves as spiritual beings, but everyone we come into contact with, especially employees as being the same, it totally changes how we motivate and manage them. All those theories of mine were a bit ahead of their time when I first started out. I remember mentioning that I was a “holistic” business coach and having people react to me, like I had two heads. Weird, spooky, creepy, are all adjectives that spring to mind. Thankfully, the world has moved on and movements about mindfulness, and wellness in the workplace are changing the way we look at our lives, careers and businesses and about how we are within them.
One of the greatest gifts you will ever give yourself is to recognise the spiritual being you are, nurture that and do what you need to do to enhance it. This will vary amongst us. For me, it is in helping others, practising mindfulness and now Reiki on a daily basis along with practising gratitude, exercising (with others) and being in nature. All of these practices feed my soul and help me be that spiritual being that is just here for the human experience. All of those practises help me be a better and more productive Manager and Business Owner too…..what’s not to love?
