One of the Reiki Principles

Hi Motivation Seekers, hope you have had a fabulous week and you are keen and eager for the new week ahead.  Did last week’s Motivator make a difference for you?  Did you try the journalling exercise?  If so, has that made a difference?  With all of these things, changes don’t happen overnight, but by making this part of a daily habit, you will definitely notice a difference.

I love the Reiki Principles, so I thought I would share one each week for the next few weeks.  For those who may not have heard of Reiki, it is a Japanese energy healing system.  There are 5 Principles that Reiki is based on which in effect, give a guideline for living a good life.  The thing I love about them is that each principle, states “just for today.”  It isn’t saying that for the rest of your life, you must do x or not do y, rather it is saying “do this, just for today.”  That makes it so do-able.  It stops the overwhelm and anxiety that comes with trying to do or be something that we find a struggle.

The first one is “let go of worry”.  I think this is probably the most challenging one of all.  I know, it is one that I struggle with and I think some of us are more prone to worry than others.  We are the “glass half empty” people.  Always thinking of what could go wrong and then visualising the worst outcome.  It’s a downward spiral once you are on that path.   The good news is that you can change that, particularly if you take the Reiki suggestion of “just for today”.

My 3 Top Tips to Let go of Worry

  1. Hang out with positive people. I got lucky, I married a really positive man, who makes me laugh every single day.  Laughter is a fantastic antidote to worry and being with positive people makes you feel lighter and happier.  Practise seeing the funny side of things.  Learn to see things with child like eyes, instead of jaded, serious adult eyes.  Trust me, it becomes easier once you let yourself do that.
  2. Make time to exercise.  That possibly sounds like a chore to some of you.  The answer is to do things that you enjoy and preferably do it with people you enjoy being with.  Exercise is a fabulous way to combat worry as it releases the “seratonin” hormone, which results in a “happy brain” state.
  3. Visualise positive outcomes.  We are always really good about visualising and predicting doom and gloom, but we can just as easily do the opposite.  Take time in the morning to visualise your perfect day.  Engage all your senses, let yourself see, hear, feel, taste and smell how your perfect day is.  Do this while using deep, diaphragm breathing and get your day off to a good start.  Remember, it’s just for today!
