Turning dreams into action plans

HI Motivation Seekers, how has your week been?  Did you start the exercises that I shared with you last week, to help you transform your mindset?  If so, I hope you got started and the transformation has begun!  If you haven’t, why not?  Is it the wrong time?  It it because there are too many other things getting in the way?  Whatever it is, change will only happen if you take action to make it happen.  So that’s what I want to talk about this week – turning dreams into reality.

Hoping and dreaming and visualising how you want things to be is a very powerful thing to do, however those hopes and dreams will just stay in your head unless you take some action.  Blast!  Be great if you could just put it out to the Universe and hang around and wait, but no it doesn’t work that way.  We need to DO something towards achieving the dreams.  That’s when it can get tricky, as we can start feeling fearful and then we procrastinate and then get into making excuses as to why we can’t take action.  I know, I’ve been there too, it’s still a work in progress for me as well.  I have found some things to help though, which I’ll share with you now.  It’s an easy, 3 step process from dream/vision to an action plan.

Step 1 – write up the vision

This is a great thing to do as it makes the vision more real to you with the added bonus that your goals will normally jump out of what you have written…..way better than doing a list!  What you do is create your vision on paper.  Write up what you are doing, who you are doing it with, how you are spending your time, go into this in as much detail as you can and engage all your senses.  Before doing this, spend 10 minutes breathing deeply so that you get into your heart and out of your head. Step 2 – review the vision

Look over what you have written and see where the goals are.  When you have identified them, prioritise them so that you come up with just 3 main big goals.  Then write them up as SMART goals.  Just the act of writing your goals down takes them from your dreams and helps to make them real.  The most important part of a smart goal is the “timed” part of it.  Make sure that you give yourself a deadline, or it will just drift.  Another tip is to make sure that you share your goals with someone who can keep you accountable.

Step 3 – Write up the actions needed to achieve the goals

This all starts with your big SMART goal.  Start with the end result and work backwards.  e.g. If you have a goal to be achieved within 6 months, what actions do you need to take in 5 months, 4, 3 right down to the next month, the next week, tomorrow.  Write it all down and you will have an action plan that will move you forward each day to achieving your goals, that all started with your vision and dream.  How awesome is that?  Here is an annual plan template to get you started Annual plan goals
