“As soon as you open your mind to doing things differently, the doors of opportunity practically fly off their hinges.”
Hi Motivation Seekers, how’s your week been? Did you manage to follow last week’s exercises and get some reframing going on? I hope you did and I hope it helped.
Taking action, thinking differently and doing different things is the pathway to transformation in your business, life or career. This follows on from last week’s reframing exercise. It just takes practise and repetition. Remember, we are all works in progress and finding out what is going to work for you might take a bit of trial and error, but the only way you will ever know is to give it a try.
Do you want to open a door of opportunity? Would you prefer going through the old door, the one that is comfortable and known? This is a door that you may have been going through for a very long time. You might keep to that well known, comfort-level door because of fear. This can be all sorts of fears, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of looking stupid, not being good enough, but breaking through all that is what can lead us to the door of opportunity. What can motivate you to do that though?
Sick of not getting ahead
You will feel motivated to break old patterns if you just can’t achieve the things you want. It’s like bashing your head against a brick wall, you keep doing the same stuff and getting the same, old results. Einstein said that was the definition of insanity “doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.” It may be time to find a new way. I remember a new client saying to me that he wanted coaching because he was “sick and tired of being sick and tired.” That was a man who was motivated to change and he did!
Fed up being fearful
If fear is holding you back, you will know it. We put brave faces on and hide our fears from others, but we can’t hide them from ourselves. Facing your fear is one of the bravest things any of us can ever do, it can be so hard but the benefits to be gained from this are massive. The amazing thing that happens as well is that you realise your fear wasn’t the big deal you thought it was. I recall our most fearful time in our bakery business was when a bakery opened up right next door to us. I felt hugely threatened and fearful, I immediately started thinking of the worst case scenario, that we would lose our business. That’s one of the unfortunate side effects of fears, they create negative pictures in your mind, they lead you to creating the situation you are so scared is going to happen, it almost becomes self fulfilling. Let’s not do that! Identify the fear and shove it! It’s not real, it’s a figment of your imagination or something that you picked up when you were a child and didn’t know any better. Now you do, so recognise what that fear is, where it has come from, face it and don’t give in to it. Create the vision of how things could be without that fear.
Create a clear, exciting vision for your future
This is probably the very best thing you can do that will motivate you to make changes and do things differently. A compelling vision that you are passionate about and constantly remind yourself of and visualise frequently, will more than anything lead you to taking the actions you need to take so that you achieve that vision. I really love helping people do this. I love to help them believe that anything is possible and those dreams that have been buried deep for so long can at last be realised. How awesome would that be?
I hope you have a fantastic week and get started on unlocking those doors of opportunity. They are there just waiting for you, so go for it!
